Four days in Singapore: a day-by-day plan with MRT routing

早わかり

  • Split four days into Marina Bay and Gardens by the Bay, the Chinatown–Little India–Kampong Glam trio, Sentosa, and Mandai or Orchard before departure.
  • Use the MRT every day: the Downtown line links the three neighbourhoods on day two, and HarbourFront is the gateway to Sentosa.
  • A Johor Bahru half day fits best on your lightest day, because Causeway queues are long on weekends and holidays.

The plan at a glance

Singapore is a small island and the MRT reaches almost everything. This plan groups nearby sights each day to cut travel time, and leaves the hottest afternoon hours for indoor activities.

Day 1: Marina Bay and Gardens by the Bay

  • Morning: stroll Merlion Park, the Helix Bridge and the Esplanade. Use Raffles Place or Esplanade station.
  • Late morning: the Marina Bay Sands SkyPark observation deck or the ArtScience Museum. Check hours and tickets on the official sites.
  • Afternoon: Gardens by the Bay. Supertree Grove is a free outdoor area, while Flower Dome and Cloud Forest are ticketed and make cool indoor options in strong sun.
  • Evening: the Garden Rhapsody light show at Gardens by the Bay, or Spectra at the Event Plaza in front of Marina Bay Sands. Show times change, so check the official sites.

Day 2: Chinatown, Little India and Kampong Glam

The Downtown line is the spine: start at Chinatown, then ride to Little India and on to Bugis, so you never double back.

  1. 1Morning in ChinatownVisit the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and the Sri Mariamman Temple, then lunch at Maxwell or Chinatown Complex.
  2. 2Afternoon in Little IndiaWalk through Tekka Centre, the Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple and Mustafa Centre. Dress modestly and remove shoes in temples.
  3. 3Evening in Kampong GlamSee the Sultan Mosque, Haji Lane and Arab Street. Bugis MRT makes the trip back easy.

3日目:セントーサ

Ride the MRT to HarbourFront, then take the Sentosa Express from VivoCity, walk the Sentosa Boardwalk, or use the cable car from Mount Faber. Options include Universal Studios Singapore at Resorts World Sentosa, Singapore Oceanarium (the expanded successor of the S.E.A. Aquarium), Siloso, Palawan and Tanjong beaches, SkyHelix and Wings of Time. Check tickets and times first.

If an afternoon thunderstorm hits, switch to indoor options such as the Oceanarium or Universal Studios, then return to the beach once the rain clears.

Day 4: Mandai or Orchard, then departure

  • Mandai option: Singapore Zoo, River Wonders, Bird Paradise and Rainforest Wild ASIA, reached by shuttle bus from an MRT station such as Khatib or by Grab. Check the Mandai site for the current shuttle.
  • Orchard option: shopping malls and cafes, a good indoor plan for a wet day.
  • Before your flight: Jewel Changi Airport has the Rain Vortex and Shiseido Forest Valley, with free public areas connected to Terminal 1.

Fallbacks and a Johor Bahru half day

On very hot or wet days, move outdoor plans to the morning or evening and use the Gardens by the Bay domes, ArtScience Museum, Orchard malls or Jewel as covered options. Check the PSI in the myENV app if haze appears, which can happen from August to October in some years.

To add Johor Bahru, use half of day 4 or swap in your lightest day. Cross at Woodlands by bus or the KTM Shuttle Tebrau train to JB Sentral. Thai passport holders can enter Malaysia without a visa but must submit the MDAC beforehand.

The RTS Link between Woodlands North and Bukit Chagar is built but not yet open, with operators targeting early 2027. Confirm with official sources (last checked October 2026). Causeway queues are very long on weekends, public holidays and Friday evenings.

On data, if you cross into Malaysia, check that your plan covers Malaysia too. See “Malaysia Internet for Travellers: SIM, eSIM and Mobile Data in KL and Penang” and “Singapore Trip Prep and Internet: eSIM or SIM, Plus a Checklist”.

MRT routing between days and pacing

  1. Day 1 to day 2: from Bayfront, the Downtown line runs to Chinatown with no change.
  2. Day 2 to day 3: from Little India or Chinatown, the North East line runs straight to HarbourFront.
  3. Day 3 to day 4: from HarbourFront, take the Circle or North East line to Dhoby Ghaut, then continue to Orchard or toward Khatib depending on your choice.
  4. Departure day: head to Changi Airport on the East-West line, and check whether you change at Tanah Merah.

Plan only two or three main activities a day, because the heat and humidity tire you quickly. Rest with a cold drink in an air-conditioned spot twice a day, and pack sunscreen and a small umbrella.

Details on SimplyGo, tapping on buses and MRT rules sit in the transport guide linked at the end of this article. For food, pencil in lunch at a hawker centre near each day's sights.

Download offline maps in advance in case of weak indoor signal, and install your eSIM before flying.

よくある質問

Are four days enough for Singapore?+

Yes for the main highlights, because the island is small and well served by the MRT. If you prefer a slower pace, cut an activity rather than rush.

Can I swap the days?+

Yes. Put Sentosa or Mandai on the best-weather day and keep indoor-friendly days for rain.

Does this work with children or older travellers?+

Yes. MRT stations have lifts, so plan a midday rest indoors and trim each day as needed.
