It depends whether you bought a Belgium-only plan or a multi-country Europe plan. On a single-country plan, data stops the moment the train crosses into France or the Netherlands. If cross-border rail is already part of the itinerary, a regional Europe plan is the simpler and usually cheaper choice, and you never have to swap lines mid-journey. Do I need data right at the airport?+

It helps a lot. The airport train into Brussels is easiest to book in the app, and the ticket is a QR code you need to open at the platform. From Charleroi it matters more, because you connect by coach into Brussels and the timetable shifts with flight arrivals. Turn the eSIM on once you land and you will usually have service before you leave the terminal.

Signs and announcements keep changing language — how do I cope?+

Belgium has Dutch, French and German language regions, so the same city has two names — Bergen and Mons, or Luik and Liège — which is genuinely confusing on a departure board. The easiest fix is to track the train number and departure time rather than the destination name, and keep a camera translation tool for station signs. That uses a fair amount of data unless you download the offline language pack first.

Can one line hotspot the rest of the group?+

Technically yes, provided the plan does not disable sharing, but walking a compact old town like Bruges or Ghent means the group drifts apart constantly. Past twenty or thirty metres the hotspot drops and whoever depends on it loses navigation instantly. For three or more people who split up often, a small plan each is safer, and the person sharing keeps their battery through the day.

When does a Belgium eSIM start counting days?+

Most plans here start when the phone first connects to a network at the destination, so you can install in advance at home and switch it on after landing. Each plan page states its own rule.

Do I have to remove my home SIM?+

No. The eSIM is a second line, so you keep your home number for SMS OTP. Turn off roaming data on the home line and set the eSIM as the data line.
