Around 1–2GB a day for maps, WhatsApp and looking up places as you drive, but if the hotel Wi-Fi keeps dropping with the power and the phone carries your evenings too, plan closer to 3GB.

到着後にすること

Beirut Rafic Hariri International (BEY) is the only commercial airport in service. Overland there is the Masnaa crossing, the main route to Syria, plus the northern crossings around Abboudieh and Arida. Turn the line on inside the terminal, because getting into the city usually means meeting a driver whose price you agreed in advance rather than joining a metered taxi rank.

The coastal strip from Beirut north through Jounieh and Byblos to Tripoli, and south to Sidon and Tyre, is continuously covered. It thins in the high villages of Mount Lebanon, deep in the cliff-walled Qadisha Valley, along the Lebanon Mountain Trail, and on the switchback roads climbing to Bcharre and the cedars, where service comes and goes with each bend of the valley.

Do the power cuts affect the mobile signal?+

The thing you notice immediately is hotel Wi-Fi, because the router dies with the power. Mobile networks have their own backup arrangements and usually keep running, though quality is not uniform everywhere or at every hour. What genuinely helps is carrying a charged power bank, topping the phone up whenever the power is on, and keeping maps and important documents downloaded on the device rather than only in the cloud.

Driving up to Bcharre, will the signal hold?+

The villages themselves usually have service, but the climb up is switchbacks and rock faces, so coverage cuts in and out with the angle of the valley. Download the route offline before you leave the coast, and if someone is expecting you, send your estimated arrival while you still have bars. In winter some of these roads close for snow, so message the guesthouse before you set out rather than after.

Local number or eSIM for contacting people on the ground?+

In practice nearly every conversation happens on WhatsApp, which is tied to your existing account and runs over data, so a local number is rarely the point — a stable data line is. Keep your usual SIM in the phone to receive bank verification codes by SMS with its data roaming switched off, and leave the eSIM set as the data line for the whole trip.
