Should airplane mode be turned on while actually crossing the border?+
No, it is not necessary. Let the phone operate normally during the actual crossing. Toggling airplane mode is recommended after crossing if there is still no data past about ten minutes, not pre-emptively during the crossing itself.
For a route crossing several countries in one day, how many plans need preparing?+
It depends on how many countries on that route the current plan actually covers. Compare the plan page's country list against the real route country by country; for any country not on the list, a separate plan for it needs preparing in advance.
Does the default data line need switching manually every time, or does the phone choose automatically?+
If only one eSIM line is active and it covers both countries, the phone usually switches networks on its own without needing a data-line change. But with two separate lines meant for two different countries, the default data line needs switching manually once crossing into the country the original line does not cover.
Is crossing a border at night different from during the day?+
The same principle applies day or night. Network usage density at a given time can vary by area, but we have no fixed figures on which time of day switches networks faster.
If the plan expires right in the middle of the route between two countries, what should be done?+
Always check the plan's expiry date against the travel schedule before setting off. If it will expire mid-route, prepare and install a new plan in advance the same way as when crossing into a country the current plan does not cover.
