Plan without assuming data through the day. Work from offline maps and documents saved to the device, and agree fixed check-in windows with people at home instead of expecting to be continuously reachable while you are in the country.

到着後にすること

Asmara International (ASM) is the main gateway and sees only a handful of flights a week, with Massawa (MSW) and Assab (ASA) as the other airports. By sea, the port of Massawa is where boats leave for the Dahlak archipelago. Land borders open and close depending on the regional situation, so check with an embassy or your operator beforehand, and carry every document as a paper copy.

In practice you should treat connectivity in Eritrea as limited everywhere. Asmara has the most options but they are neither fast nor consistent, and once you head out towards Keren, Massawa, the Qohaito plateau, the Dahlak islands or the Danakil in the south, assume there is nothing at all. Save maps, tickets and your travel permit to the device and carry printed copies of all of them as well.
